The brief
The credit-score industry was broken. The mission was to fix it, using credit reference agency and open-banking data to build better borrowing algorithms and give people in the UK better ways to save and borrow.
The recording
- Built and ran an in-house offshore team in India covering engineering, product management, UX/UI design and DevOps.
- Led the planning and integration of two credit bureaus, TransUnion and Experian, at the level of security and quality that very sensitive personal data demands.
- Brought in partners for open-banking data (TrueLayer), credit broking (Experian), and energy price comparison and switching.
- Designed and ran P&Ls covering fixed and variable partner costs and pricing, to predict the business's financial exposure accurately.
- Coached and mentored the engineering and product teams to keep them growing and collaborating.
How it charted
We took it to market and launched to customers. The timing was tough, with 2020 arriving soon after, but the bureau integrations, open-banking plumbing and partner P&L models became the foundation for everything I've built in credit since.
